Jul. 11th, 2013 01:40 pm sadness

I am on vacation and am typing on my kindle which is awkward and slow. We are in Jaco Costa Rica and having a wonderful time. We is Bill Jon Cassie Brandon Keagan and Rowan. I am baby sitting and watching Disney kids a la espanol. Mi espanol es muy mal.

Ive discovered that Keagan is an ace Uno player. He's beaten me solid.

I was doodling around on live journal and wondered why I hadn't read anything by Gooroo in a while and am very sad to report that after some research, I discovered he died back in June of 2010. I know many of you were friends of his as Well, so this may be old news but I thought Id mention it here in case you didn't know. I am very bummed by this. He was a great guy and championed Jonathan in every rant I had about the kid. My condolences to all those who loved him.

Jonathan made an offer on a home of his own and it was accepted on Monday. It looks like this:

Jonathan's house

It was bought as a foreclosure by a builder who makes his living flipping houses but he is very picky and very thorough. He replaced the roof. He replaced all the flooring with laminate and tile. He painted inside and out. He landscaped the yard. He refinished the wood kitchen cabinets. He took down ceiling fans and put in beautiful light fixtures in some of their places. He did a great job.

The house itself is really nice. It has almost everything he wanted: board fenced in yard. Three bedrooms, two baths. Two car garage. All appliances (except a microwave) including a washer and dryer. It's about 1500 square feet under air. It has a screened in lanai and a patio. It has mature trees and a lovely coconut tree on the property.

He closes, if the inspections come back well, the end of April. That seems like a long time but it's a USDA loan and those take time.

He asked me to help me get it outfitted. He only has a bedroom set, so that gives me the opportunity to dig around and find some treasures. Of course, I'm busy doing it but everytime I show him something, it seems to be the last thing on his mind.

I may not kill him before he moves out.

Tragedy on the roads.

I was driving behind a SUV this evening and it had a set of those stick figure families. You know the ones that look like this:

This one was a Dad, Mom, and kid but when I pulled closer, I could see that once there was another kid and a pet that had been peeled off!

Man, that tells a story, doesn't it?

Aug. 23rd, 2012 07:54 pm Shoes

Why are women's shoes these days so fricken ugly?

Look here:

Not only are they ugly, they're dangerous.

A precious 16 year old student fell down the stairs at school today while wearing six inch heels. She broke her leg.

Because of this, there's a dress code rule that stipulates the maximum height of students' heels.

Where are people's brains?

Aug. 7th, 2012 10:38 am The Diary of a Retired Mother

Today was the first day of work for my son, the first day of his chosen career.  He will be teaching middle school Social Studies and Religion at the grammar school where he attended.

Which tie should he wear?

He chose the one on the right.

I remember making his lunch when he was little.  He carried it to school in a little cooler but now, he just uses an old lunch bag that I had.  His keys to the school are on the counter next to his lunch, ready to go.

(The bottle is for me.)

He was bringing a stack of books in for his classroom library.  You can see that the 18th century British Navy is going to be emphasized.  I don't know what he plans to do with the Angry Bird.

He decided against bringing these in.  Not For Glory is an excellent sci fi story but there was a scene where the protagonist is remembering when he had sex with both of his wives at the same time.  I guess that's not exactly what a parochial middle school wants to deal with.

I tried to get him to stand in front of our house like he did on his very first day of school as a student but he isn't as sentimental as I am and just laughed.  I did get him pulling out of the driveway on his way, though.

God Speed, Son.
